The Rare Byrds early music consort will be giving a concert at Orokonui Ecosanctuary on Sunday at 7.30pm.
Entitled "The Bird-Fancyer's Delight", it features Renaissance and medieval music and dance with bird themes.
There's a lot of terrific music depicting or imitating birds, according to the group's leader, Jonathan Cweorth. There are pieces about ravens, swans, eagles and even pieces written to teach new tunes to pet songbirds.
The concert also includes music by Elizabethan composer William Byrd after whom the consort was named.
The Playford Dancers will dance in bird masks, and dancer Bronwyn Judge has choreographed a dance to be performed to German medieval music about spring.
The Byrd-Fancyer's Delight is a fundraiser for the ecosanctuary and part of its second birthday celebrations.
