Lindsay Lohan has been taken away in handcuffs after a judge found her in violation of her probation.
Judge Stephanie Sautner revoked Lohan's probation after the actress encountered problems during her community service assignment at a women's shelter.
Bail has been set at US$100,000 (NZ$126,000).
Sautner said Lohan would be entitled to a hearing before being sentenced to jail over the violation.
Lohan has started serving hours with the American Red Cross, but Sautner said that would not count toward her probation because it was not part of her sentence.
It's the latest legal problem for the 25-year-old Lohan, who remains on probation for a 2007 drunken driving case and a misdemeanour theft case this year.
Meanwhile, Lohan has started work in a morgue.
Sautner pulled the Mean Girls actress from her current community service assignment with the Red Cross and told probation police to assign her to duty at a Los Angeles mortuary.
She will have to spend 120 hours sweeping the floor of the building where human corpses are stored, which is part of her sentence for stealing a US$2500 necklace in January.
Before starting work at the Red Cross, Lindsay was kicked out of her community service programme at the Los Angeles Downtown Women's Centre.
Despite being kicked out of two community service projects, Lindsay is said to be "extremely focused" on completing her punishment.
Her representative Steve Honig explained earlier this week: "Lindsay performed community service every single day this past week at the Red Cross, and has been spending the bulk of the weekend fulfilling her therapy and shoplifters course requirements.
"She is extremely focused on her court-ordered obligations."
