Spain to open Paramount's first European theme park

Spain says it will build Paramount Pictures' first European theme park to open in 2015, despite the country's economic woes.

Paramount Licensing Inc. and Spanish officials said yesterday that the park will go up in Alhama de Murcia in southeast Spain, creating 23,000 jobs.

It involves an investment of US$1.35 billion. Promoters Premursa are putting up half the money and seeking investors for the rest.

The park is expected to feature an adjacent 'Life Style Centre' with an auditorium and business park, among other features.

Its projections are for three million visitors a year. Some attractions will be based on Paramount movies such as Titanic and Mission Impossible.

Alhama de Murcia is 430 kilometres southeast of Madrid.
